Breeds
Several Italian chicken and turkey breeds, all included in the Italian Herd Book of Native Poultry Breeds, will be characterised by the constant recording of morphologic, reproductive and productive traits and are included in conservation programs.
Up-to-date consistency of native poultry breeds was evaluated by the census performed during the first TuBAvI project (see Action 1) and is expressed according to FAO classification of risk categories (1998).
The technical data sheet for each of the conserved breeds can be found on the corresponding breed page, and contains the descriptions of the historical origin of the breed and morphological, genetic, reproductive, and productive data, together with rearing traits, mating plans, and the consistency of the Criobank doses.
More detailed information on the birds portrayed in the pictures published on this website can be found in the captions of the pictures in the Gallery.
